Anthropocentrism – Ely’s Vision

Ely City Hall, Council and many city-related organizations envision a city of buildings, especially buildings that support entertainment and subsidize rich developers and real estate investors. They want to turn Ely into an entertainment mecca for ATV’s, OHV’s, and tourists with monies. They want to turn our Gateway into the Boundary Waters into something like Lake Minnetonka, Minnesota or Jackson Hole, Wyoming or Branson, Missouri. They say, We have enough natural spaces here within the City boundaries. We have the Boundary Waters, Whiteside Park, and Semers Park. “We” refers to people, not all God’s critters that need adequate water, food, shelter, quiet and safety to survive and procreate. Even those migrating through.

Citizens for Transparency addresses anthropocentric and profit-focused expenditures, planning and development. See our 2024 post: https://elyminnesota.com/blog/reviewing-ely-city-visions-plans/.

Reviewing Ely City Visions & Plans

Disclosure: This post is heavily skewed towards human/City actions to (not) actively protect nature, wildlife and their habitats. Wildlife and Nature have their own value beyond human entertainment. For definitions and explanations of anthropocentrism, see Science Digest, TreeHugger, your dictionaries and other favorite research links.
