Your Guide to Ely, Canoe Country & the BWCAW - Boundary Waters Canoe Area

White Admiral Butterfly on Sunflower

Ely Resorts and Ely Outfitters for the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness welcome you to Ely and to ElyMinnesota.com, your virtual gateway to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, the BWCAW.

What a wonderful summer we’ve had and fall looks every bit as promising.

Ely resorts and outfitters cater to all those who enjoy canoeing, fishing, the Boundary Waters and all nature here in the Northland.  And this is still the season for the mighty walleye as well as the fall garden harvest. This picture is a White Admiral Butterfly on one of the sunflowers in our garden.  The gardens have been blessed with plenty of water and sun this summer and are producing abundantly.  Join us at the Ely Farmers Market on Tuesday evenings to purchase locally grown produce, flowers, baked goods and crafts.  More people are discovering this local bounty and quality each year.  It is well worth the stop and see on your next trip to Ely

Although the unusual Spring scattered the Walleyes and frustrated even the pros, fishing has settled into a more normal pattern as the summer progressed.  As fishermen were forced to try new tactics and fish in unfamiliar territory, record catches have been reported from the lakes and streams in and around the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.  Another good reason to consult with one of our local Ely Resorts or Ely Outfitters: Even in hard times they can guide you to the BWCA experience of a lifetime.

We look forward to seeing you for the Harvest Moon Festival and all the fun Fall activities Ely and the BWCA have to offer.  Be sure to bookmark or add ElyMinnesota.com to your favorites so that you can visit us and view our webcams to see what is going on in the Ely area. Check our Event Calendar for upcoming Ely events.

If you like to ask questions, you could become a great scientist. Scientists spend a lot of their time asking questions. They also spend a lot of time trying to answer them. There are many ways to answer questions. You can guess. You can ask other people what the answer is. You can answer the question based on information you have or learn. More...

Ely City Council Regular Meeting October 20, 2009

The Ely City Council regular meeting was called to order by Acting Mayor Zupec at 6:00 p.m. on October
20, 2009 at the Ely City Hall.

The BWCA is facing a major turning point in its history and needs level heads and calm minds to determine the proper way to proceed. We are faced with the contentious issue of non-ferrous sulfide mining in or near the lakes and streams of the BWCA.   The EIS was released this week and the countdown for public comment has begun.  It is very important that we let our thoughts be known and get all questions on the table.
